Secondary Success & Beyond grew from watching first-generation and underserved students struggle with applications, financial aid, and life on campus without support. This scholarship is a natural extension of that work, ensuring future students don’t have to face those same gaps alone.

The scholarship is designed for students actively pursuing college degrees or accredited trade programs who are facing financial barriers. Funds can be used for tuition, books, required tools, and other education-related expenses that help students stay enrolled and on track toward graduation.

Applicants in Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, or Stephenson counties should be enrolled or accepted into a college, university, or accredited trade program and demonstrate financial need and commitment to mentoring and/or community service. Priority may be given to applicants who plan to return to their community after completing their degree or certificate program.

Applicants must complete the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois Universal Application and be matched with the Secondary Success and Beyond Scholarship in order to apply.

The Secondary Success & Beyond Scholarship Fund was created to help students not only access higher education, but stay enrolled and finish strong. Rooted in our mission, this scholarship provides direct financial support so students can focus on their goals—not just their bills.

Each scholarship cycle includes a set award amount and application timeline, with funds awarded directly in alignment with program policies. Students complete an online application, submit proof of enrollment, a short essay, and at least one recommendation to be considered.
